How do our Tuk-Tuk Adventures work?

The Large Minority Tuk-Tuk Adventures are not a race – they are a challenge! The format of the Challenge has been put together in such a way that speed is never a priority. Depending on your destination, the route is broken up into different driving legs. Each team is given a road map and daily navigational sheet which they must use to navigate from the beginning to end of each leg. During the days, you’ll be set checkpoints to reach and challenges to complete, and it’s up to you and your teammates to come up with the best way to get stuff done. Think of our Adventure Challenges as a down-to-earth version of The Amazing Race

During the evenings, you’ll be toasting your success and swapping the day’s stories with your fellow adventurers from all over globe. And boy, will there be stories.

Throughout the adventure there are 2-3 challenges each day based on 5 main themes - cultural, language, physical, culinary and photography, all created as fun and creative icebreakers to encourage local discovery and exploration. Each challenge is attributed a points value for completion and/or participation and the team with the most points after the event wins the challenge!

The winning team isn’t necessarily the team that finishes first, it’s the one that accumulates the most Challenge points. How do you get points? By nailing various challenges, we set you along the way. That means that racing is not really encouraged. In fact it’s actively discouraged. There’s no need to set a new speed record. We’ll provide support when you need it, but essentially you’ll be in charge of your own adventure.

Your Ride

The Tuk-Tuk

Ah, the humble Tuk-Tuk. The ride so nice they named it twice. Each destination has their own version - Indian-made Auto-Rickshaw, Sri Lankan-modified, the italian Piaggio Ape etc. They’ve got three wheels (don’t ask us why), an open frame, a canvas roof with drop down sides, a cabin for the driver and two seats in the back. Oh, and an engine: a 4-stroke beast that is probably slightly more powerful than a horse. Tuk-Tuks have a few advantages: they’re durable, easy to use and very forgiving. They’ll happily handle almost any surface, climate or level of abuse. Their cruising speed is a tasty 35kph (22mph). Their cruising altitude is about one foot.

Do you have what it takes?

There are plenty of reasons to get up from that couch and embark on an adventure. Active holidays give you the opportunity to reinvigorate yourself and view life from a brand new perspective. All at once, you can challenge yourself, improve your physical and mental health while feeding that hungry sense of wanderlust.

Adventure travel teaches you how to deal with the unexpected, to adapt to various situations, and upon returning home again, you’ll have a profound sense of achievement. When you go on a genuinely life-changing trip, you don’t come back the same person. You’re usually stronger, more confident, and are rocking a pretty excellent tan. It sounds like a cliché, but it’s true: when you venture out, good things happen. That’s what life-changing adventure challenges are all about. Do you have what it takes?

I would not change a single moment, you have the best recipe already. We did this adventure at ages 61-69. Everyone that is capable should experience this once in a lifetime adventure. It was challenging at time but so amazing.
